Utlac..bad weather cancels the edition 2020. Appointment for next year
It was supposed to be the first real big post-pandemic event in the Larian mountains, but Utlac, the Ultra Trail of Lake Como, had to surrender to bad weather. The organizers of many events, already in the months of March and April, had canceled several mountain running races scheduled for the months of September and October, but those of Utlac had wanted to give a signal of confidence and optimism by keeping the date on Saturday October 3 for the second edition of this fascinating race.
Once the bureaucratic process was completed and the necessary indications for a similar event were fulfilled, in order to reduce the risk of contagion, everything seemed ready, but where Covid-19 failed, the copious rain fell throughout the territory in the days before the event, thus making it impossible to dispute the race without jeopardizing the safety of the participants.
Reluctantly we communicate that, in the light of the recent weather alert disclosed by the civil protection of Lecco, we are forced to cancel the race for the safety of athletes and organizers. – This is the text of the press release issued a few hours before departure by the organizers – Plan B was already drawn up and the program had been adapted to the weather forecast, unfortunately the sudden deterioration of the latter, combined with the warning document released in the afternoon, leaves no room for alternatives.
As already mentioned, it will be possible to ask to keep the registration valid for the 2021 edition. Alternatively, a partial refund will be offered from which we will deduct a percentage to at least partially support the expenses incurred. We will update you as soon as possible on times and methods. Resigned to having to cancel, we greet all the athletes and thank members, volunteers, sponsors, collaborators and all those who believed and supported UTLAC 40k 2020 until the end, in the hope of seeing you all again at the next edition!.
The appointment then sled to 2021 for all enthusiasts eager to try their hand at the wonderful and tiring 40-kilometer route that starts from Lecco and arrives in Esino Lario after the beauty of 3600 meters of positive altitude difference. All through the crests of the Grigne mountain group that flank Lake Como, passing along the Val Calolden and the Southern Grigna, then through the Alpe di Campione and up the slopes of the Northern Grigna up to the summit before descending from the north side of the group to get to Cainallo and Esino Lario.
