Inshore and offshore boats and from this year also aquabike! The Centomiglia del Lario, a historic race on the waters of our lake, 71st edition this year, is evolving and expanding its offer.
The event, scheduled for Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October with the Tullio Abbate Trophy, will also offer the Centomiglia Aquabike version for the first time. This is the important result achieved by the organizers of the Yacht Club Como in collaboration with the aquabike pilots Christian Bousquet and Luca Vecchiori, also counting on the support of the councilor for sport of the Municipality of Como, Marco Galli, and of the Coni of Milan.
The Centomiglia del Lario was born in 1949 from an idea of Sandro De Col, a great boating enthusiast and personally involved in the races that at the time took place in the Ticino circuit. Como also had to have its own event that could become over the years a fixed point in the calendar of all the best specialists in northern Italy and beyond. Sandro talks about it with his trusted advisors Aldo Ayala and Tito Pistarini who take action to transform the dream into reality and within a few months, with the fundamental financial support of Remo Cademartori, the first edition is organized, scheduled for September 4th 1949 on the Como-Lecco-Colico-Isola Comacina-Como route, touching the most fascinating points of the lake. Born as a cross-country race for touring inboard, the first edition sees 34 participants at the start, of which reach the finish line 26. The overall victory goes to Mario Marzorati with a Taroni hull, powered by Gray Marine 5000 cc. At an average of 66,022 km/h. Fortunato Paoletti wins in inboard tourism up to 2228 cc.
A long time has passed since that September 4th 1949, whit a lot of news in the following years in the Centomiglia del Lario. The innovations concerning the boats, the improvements on the route and an increasing importance in the nautical environment, have made it one of the most important events on the entire national scene, always under the careful direction of the Como Yacht Club. A wonderful story, full of anecdotes and curiosities, such as the one concerning the 1976 edition, the only one that was not disputed, not for lack of desire or funds, but simply for the flooding of the lake that caused the flooding of the headquarters.
In recent years the event has also hosted the Italian Endurance Championship, showing off for its high organizational efficiency, so much so that it has also been awarded the European and World Championship. The appointment is therefore for the weekend of 17 and 18 October, this time also involving aquabike!
