Registrations for the first edition of the Grigne Skymarathon – Davide Invernizzi Trophy, a mountain running race organized by the Pasturo Team of president Alberto Zaccagni in collaboration with Falchi Lecco and Gsa Cometa, will open on Friday 16 April. A real great event for fans of this tiring discipline, which will re-propose in a revisited key a race course among the most known and appreciated on the national scene.
Let’s start by saying that the race will be held on Sunday 19 September and that it has been included in the prestigious circuit called Skyrunner World Series. The track will have a development of 42 kilometers, just like a traditional marathon, and the athletes will have to overcome an overall positive difference in altitude of 4800 meters. The Davide Invernizzi Trophy is up for grabs, in memory of a great Grigne enthusiast and excellent skyrunner from Lecco. It is thanks to Davide that the protagonist path of the legendary Scaccabarozzi Trophy until a few years ago will return to host an event of international interest.
Already from its first edition on 30 September 2001, the Scaccabarozzi Trophy garnered great acclaim thanks to its fascinating route that from Pasturo led to the summit of the Northern Grigna, at an altitude of 2410 meters, for a total of 27 km and 2650 meters of positive elevation gain. In 2012 the last edition took place, to then leave room for ZacUp, another race that needs no introduction for experts in the sector. Among the great promoters of a race that would re-propose the Scaccabarozzi track was Davide Invernizzi, born in 1989 who died on August 15, 2019, the victim of a serious road accident while he was riding his motorcycle in via Castagnera, in Pasturo. An idea born for some time and which will now become reality bearing its own name.
«The race will re-propose the 43 km long route that climbs from Pasturo into the Grigne massif, touching both the Southern “Grignetta” peaks at 2184 meters and the Northern “Grignone” at 2410 meters, to descend back to Pasturo in a path that will literally leave you breathless – explain the organizers -. Preparing a skymarathon of this magnitude requires considerable commitment and involvement. This is why it remained an idea for years, until, carried away by Davide’s enthusiasm, we decided to put it in the pipeline. The Pasturo Team, former organizer of Zacup, can now count on the solid support of two valid and present sports associations such as Falchi Lecco and GSA Cometa, who with great enthusiasm have joined together to make this our dream, and Davide’s dream, reality».
All of this clearly keeping an eye on the complex health situation we are experiencing: «Together we are working hard to stage an edition with all the necessary security, in compliance with the health protocols issued by F.I.Sky. It will certainly be a different edition but no less exciting or spectacular. We strongly believe in this project and in its realization, we are optimistic about the restart, even in sport and we would like Davide’s wish to come true».
