Trekking on Monte San Martino
If you are keen on trekking, an excursion worth doing if you are in the city of Lecco, is to Monte San Martino. This is part of the Grigne group and frames the city.
From here you can enjoy wonderful views of the city, the surrounding mountain peaks and the Brianza lakes. The route is suitable for the whole family but, despite its short duration, requires a minimum of athletic preparation.
Route
The route starts in Rancio Alto, a small hamlet of Lecco; from here it is necessary to follow the road that leads to Valsassina. After having reached and crossed the bridge over the Gerenzone, located at the end of an uphill road, you have to turn left entering via Quarto. From here it is necessary to continue straight ahead as far as a car park situated on the left, before the wash-house and cemetery.
From the car park you enter the village until you reach a small square; here you have to follow the indications of the path nr 52 uphill. Continue straight ahead until you reach a villa on the right of which, after a few large steps, you enter the path. The first stretch is short and flat. Once you reach the Madonna, turn right and from here the path becomes steeper.
After about 45 minutes you reach your destination, the small San Martino chapel, dedicated to the Madonna del Carmine; from here an incredible and unique panoramic view awaits you.
From the chapel there are two alternatives: either continue straight on towards the Rifugio Piazza following path no. 52 (reachable in about 10 minutes) or reach the Crocione, following the path to the right of the chapel.
