The Monti Lariani Route

La via dei Monti Lariani” – this is an impressive 125 km route from Cernobbio to Sorico, linking various locations along the mountains of the western shore of Lake Como.

The “La via dei Monti Lariani” route, designed by the Como CAI, is entirely marked and divided into four sections. It is proposed to divide them into at least 5 stages, spending the night in refuges or hotels located along the way. Starting from Cernobbio you will also have the opportunity to visit this town famous for its villas and hotels. You can admire, for example, the coveted Villa d’Este, named the best hotel in the world by Forbes. It is also a must for lovers of peace and quiet. Visiting Cernobbio means immersing yourself in the relaxing atmosphere of an incomparable lakeside village, with enchanting views, inviting shops and characteristic bars and restaurants.

A route offering unique and exclusive views of the Lombardy mountains. The route is divided into 5 stages are:

The Via dei Monti Lariani begins in Piazza Mazzini in Cernobbio; here take Via Volta and continue towards Rovenna. At the end of the street turn left onto Via Parini and then follow the road to Casnedo. Turn right after the church and after passing the bridge and the village of Stomaino, continue to Rovenna (which can also be reached by bus).

Once in Rovenna, follow the mule track to Monte Bisbino, at the end of which you take the road on the right to Cà Bossi. From Cà Bossi, follow the road downhill to the Bugone hut and then on to the Murelli hut.
Following a flat path, you reach the Colma di Schignano and then turn right into an area characterised by military tunnels.

At the Alpe Cerano/San Fedele crossroads, descend to the right and then continue along the tarmac road following the signs for Erbonne. At the next fork, turn right and you will reach the Monti di Carolza; then follow the signs for Capanna Bruno/San Fedele. When you reach the asphalt road, continue to the left and after passing the hut, follow the signs to the right for Alpe Orimento/San Fedele.

Take the tarmac road that descends to Casasco passing the Cristè hut; then turn left towards San Fedele. After a grassy path and a pine forest, descend to the centre of San Fedele, where the first stage ends

From San Fedele follow the road to Belvedere, a panoramic point overlooking the valley. You then pass through Coia, in the direction of Alpe di Colonno and reach the Boffalora Refuge.

From the hut you reach Galbiga via Pioda. It passes by La Taiada, through Alpe Gada, to reach Piazza from where you can admire the Abbey of San Benedetto. After passing Crusen, you reach Garbagno and descend to Narro.

Here take a path on the right that leads to Ossino, a splendid natural balcony overlooking the three branches of Lake Como. From Ossino you descend towards Mezzegra; having crossed the Monte Crocione area, you reach the military road and continue to descend through the Monti Brente and the Bocchetta di Nava to Paullo.

From the little church of the Madonna we continue along an asphalt road that leads to our destination, Croce.

From Grandola e Uniti follow the road to Codogna; then pass through Barna and La Piazza. Keeping first to the right and then, at the fork, to the left along an up and down path, you reach Breglia.

Once past Breglia, keep to the right at the fork, cross Val di Greno and you will reach Carcente. From the small hamlet, follow the path to Monti di Carcente and Monti di Treccione; you will then reach Montuglio and continue towards Monti di Naro. Continue through Alpe Nalcim and Val Grande.

From here, the trail gradually descends and passes through the villages of Adacca, Brecchio, Labbio before arriving at San Bernardo, situated opposite the Sasso di Musso. Continue northwards on Monte Bregagno, and when you reach the village of Piazze, take the road to the right towards the bridge over the Albano river and then climb up to Catasco.

From here, continue along the mule track to Garzeno.

From the church in Garzeno, follow the path marked with a 3 and a 4 overlapping to the crossroads. After crossing a meadow, follow the path to L’Avolo and continue in the direction of Sant’Anna. Here, after following the mule track through a wood, you come to the hamlets of Cragno, Stabié, Ievia and Nessa.

Continuing to the right we arrive at L’Agnone (920m), continue towards Badalucco and finally reach the bridge that crosses the Livo stream. This brings us to the Dosso Valley where, after crossing Boiena and Ceresa, we continue in the direction of Crosanico and Novina along a dirt road that we follow until we reach the main road coming from Dosso del Liro, which we follow downhill to the latter.

Continue downhill and, at the first bend, take a path to the left; cross the Ronzone stream and follow the path that leads to Areccio. A dirt road leads to the little church of the Madonna di Pian di Gorghiglio; from here take the road to the right to Peglio.

From Peglio follow the road to Livo and, once there, proceed in the direction of Crotto Dangri. After crossing the bridge, descend to the right and follow the path along the stream; go up to the village of Barro and then descend to the bed of the Bares stream. Climb up through the woods to the Puii huts, from where you continue until you reach Trobbio and then Tabbiadello.

Cross the cemented cartroad that comes up from Vercana and, continuing on the left, you first reach Roncai and then Incisa. From here, descend towards the bridge; once you have crossed it, climb up to the village of Montalto. Continue along the mule track in the direction of Monte Berlinghera and, after crossing Piazza Lunga, continue to Fordeccia.

Go down through the meadows to Colorina and Sass Olt; then pass through the Pozzi clearing and descend towards Selve. After reaching the village fountain, descend through the woods to the church of San Miro, from which you continue downhill to the village of Sorico, where the Via dei Monti Lariani ends.
