The stronghold was built in the 14th century by the Visconti’s, during the battle between Milan and Venice, then it was destroyed by French armies in 1509.
What’s left from the original building are only the external wall, some towers and the bastions as well. Set on the very top of Somasca, the Castle overlooks all the district of Vercurago. If you’re brave enough to stick out the walls, you’ll be recompensed with the breathtaking panorama which certainly will astonish you!
Inside the tower you may also visit the Chapel of Saint Jerome with its great depiction of the miracle made by the Saint himself.
