This route starts from Colico and reaches Monte Legnoncino, which overlooks the town, from where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains and the area north of the lake.
It is advisable to start the ascent by passing through Posallo, at the start of the “Sentiero del Viandante” (Wayfarer’s Path), then continuing through the woods on cemented and dirt roads. The descent towards Vestreno leads to an asphalt road and then to the Valsassina provincial road; follow the signs for Sueglio and climb for about 6km of hairpin bends.
Once past Sueglio, at the junction on the left that leads to Artesso, keep to the right and take a dirt forest road that leads to Monti di Lavadee and Roccoli dei Lorla. From the small lake at the foot of the Roccoli Refuge, there is a dirt road leading to the small church of San Sfirio, on the foremost point of Monte Legnoncino. The peak of the mountain can be reached on foot after a short stretch. Retrace your steps and descend again to the small lake, from which you follow the Mountain Bike signs to begin the descent that runs alongside old military fortifications.
At the end of the path, which in some places will force you to descend by hand, you will reach Artesso and then Sommafiume. From here it will be easy to find the signs for Posallo and finally for Colico.
