From archaeological findings, it can be said that this territory was occupied by distant settlements of Celtic populations. In the seventeenth century it appears that Moggio was spared from the looting of the Lanzichenecchi precisely because of its more isolated position. Not from the plague, however, which struck here too.

Moggio is a well-known tourist destination which, with a landscape of enchanting balance, is the ideal point of arrival for a pleasant holiday. It offers a paradise of pure air and unspoiled nature, there is no industry. In the woods above the town there was a mine, but it was blown up by the Germans during the Second World War because they thought it was a refuge used by the partisans. All around, fragrant woods, views of mountains rising from meadows in bloom and streams with crystal clear waters. Here you can take peaceful family walks along quiet paths and mule tracks. Or you may be tempted by more demanding excursions to the highest peaks of the surrounding mountains.

In the village it is worth mentioning the local parish church of San Francesco. The Church of San Francesco d’Assisi, mentioned as early as the 12th century, became a parish church from 1569. It was restored in 1614 and regenerated in 1903 by Romeo Rivetta who painted the Theological Virtues. Inside there are works from the 17th and 17th centuries. It is also worth mentioning the important library of the same name, founded in 1864, which preserves a true heritage of volumes written between 1500 and 1800. For those interested in the history of the inhabitants of Moggio and the neighboring countries, it is possible to visit the Casa Museo. Inside it preserves materials, objects, minerals, fossils and works related to worship and liturgical activity. The museum wants to offer an insight into the history of the inhabitants. The professions exercised, the customs, the rituals and the traditions of those who lived in them.

At the bottom of the village it is possible to go up to the Piani di Artavaggio. An authentic panoramic balcony overlooking the most beautiful mountains of the Valsassina and the entire Alpine range, the Piani di Artavaggio, are a small and charming town bordering the Piani di Bobbio ski area. The whole area is currently a destination for ski mountaineers who love alternative snow. Here you come to walk with snowshoes, cross-country skis or to learn to ski using moving walkways that allow, with minimal environmental impact, to go up the easy and wide groomed trails. Excellent starting point for hiking, they host several shelters for a pleasant refreshment.
