Menaggio and the Leray Beach

On the western shore of Lake Como, at the beginning of a valley that connects it to Lake Lugano, lies Menaggio. Its location, as well as the particularly mild climate, have made it a tourist center since the nineteenth century, to which the first hotels in the area date back. The town has developed the welcome giving prominence to the lakefront, but also to the numerous points of interest that date back to the Middle Ages.

The most significant monument is undoubtedly the Castle, dating back to the 10th century, of which the perimeter walls, the entrance, the remains of two towers and some buildings from the Renaissance are still visible; dismantled in 1523, it was later used to build the church of San Carlo, which housed the community of the Lutheran Regular Canons.

Menaggio is also the ideal place for lovers of trekking and walks. From here many paths depart that cross the Senagra Valley Park, where you can admire numerous testimonies of traditional activities, such as the mills or furnaces, as well as the related rural settlements. For those who have more training, the Menaggio Refuge offers a stop at 1400 m. above sea level, from which you can then continue to Monte Grona (1736 m) or Monte Bregnano (2017 m.). For those who prefer art and culture, the Villa Mylius-Vigoni, owned by the Federal Republic of Germany, offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy the romantic atmospheres of the botanical garden adorned with statues and neoclassical temples, while the interior preserves still works of art, furniture and objects of common use.

The beach of Lerai extends to Menaggio and offers the unparalleled possibility of enjoying a unique view of the center of the lake.
