Maggiana and Ferrera Cave
Maggiana is a picturesque village located on a terrace overlooking the center of Mandello and the lake.
In its center is the Torre del Barbarossa, of medieval origin, which in the 12th century hosted the emperor Federico I, known as “il Barbarossa“. Inside there is a museum with farm utensils that can be visited only by reservation or on the occasion of the June celebrations.
In the locality of Acqua Bianca there is the Ferrera Cave, a cave made up of an immense hall, crossed by a stream that converts into a waterfall. It is accessed via a mule track. The interior practicability is easy, however the ground is covered by slippery mud and dotted with crevasses.
