From Lanzo to Sighignola
From Lanzo to the balcony of Italy
Our hike begins in Lanzo in Val d’Intelvi, at the car park located near Crotto Dogana. From here we first take via Volta and then via Pizzarera. Climb up through the asphalt road to reach and take via Spazzi. Walk along several hairpin bends (equivalent to the black slope animated by sportsmen and skiers in winter) from which you can admire the village of Lanzo and the Valsolda mountains.
Continue along the path, climbing up the mountain towards Monte Creggio. Continue along the tarmac road as far as the La Baita restaurant, where you leave the road and follow the sign indicating Sighignola, which is about 15 minutes away. Go through a wooded area, turn right and take the asphalt road again. From here you have a panoramic view of Lake Lugano.
If you continue straight ahead you will find the panoramic terrace of the Balcone d’Italia (Italian balcony). From here you have a breathtaking view of Lake Ceresio with its two southern branches, the Melide bridge, Lugano and Campione d’Italia. Once you have visited the terrace, you can climb up to the nearby Church of the Alpini on the summit of the Sighignola.
Once you have finished your visit to Sighignola, you can return by taking the tarmac road back to the ski slopes. From here we continue our descent until we reach Lanzo and then the car park from which we started.
