Consonno
The history of the ancient village of Consonno, in the municipality of Olginate (Province of Lecco), is of the legacy of the Roaring Sixties, when Mario Bagno, an unscrupulous businessman, decided to purchase the Immobiliare Consonno Brianza which owned all the houses of the village.
The whole village was demolished to create an unlikely city of entertainment, a sort of “Las Vegas” of the Brianza easy to reach because a few steps from Milan. Commercial and entertainment buildings were created in the most varied architectural forms. The hill in front of the village was even flattened to improve the panoramic view towards the Resegone. Also in the entrepreneur’s plans, around basketball court, football, minigolf, a zoological garden and even a motor racing circuit would have been built around Consonno.
Unfortunately, after the initial attention, mainly due to a series of landslides, the country fell into oblivion before the restyling was over. Nowadays only one inhabitant lives in the village while the buildings have all been fenced. This is why the village is known to many as “ghost town“.
