Located in the Municipality of Ossuccio, Comacina Island is the only island in the whole Lake Como.
Easy to reach by boat, the island houses two suggestive churches such as both San Giovanni and Santa Eufemia one. One of the most typical festival on Lake Como, probably the most scenic one, it’s definitely the Sagra di San Giovanni which yearly takes place on Sunday, the closest one to June 24. This event is traditionally meant to be a remembrance of the island devastation made by Como’s forces in 1169 as a punishment for the island itself to allied with Milan armies. Comacina Island has always been a strategic fortress, one of the latest Roman strongholds.
The world famous Sagra di San Giovanni is also renowned for its boat procession and its amazing fireworks show on the lake.
