The 39th edition of the Aci Como Rally Trophy was held over the weekend, organized by the Automobile Club Como. A highly anticipated event which, despite the restrictions imposed by the Dpcm of last November 3, took place regularly as it was recognized by CONI as an event of national interest.
Covid-19 which, however, prevented the normal program drawn up in recent weeks by the organizers and which imposed some changes. The number of special stages has been reduced to three, and the start and finish in Piazza Cavour in Como have been eliminated. The logistic center of the event, staged on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November, was the Driver in via Pasquale Paoli, while the start of the race was positioned at Lario Tir Parking. The winners of the 215 crews at the start were Corrado Fontana and Nicola Arena in Hyundai i20 Wrc, first both in the Wrc section and in the overall overall standings combined, with a total time of 44’31″8. At 9”8 behind the French Adrien Fourmaux in a Ford Fiesta R5 who won the Aci Como Trophy, including both the crews entered in the national final and the non-registered ones.
The event was also valid as the national final race of the 2020 Rally Cup Italia, won by the pair of Messina brothers formed by Andrea and Giuseppe Nucita, color bearers of the Bluthunder team from Como, on Hyundai i20 R5 of the PromoRacing team led by Gianfranco Caranci. In second place among the finalists Luca Bottarelli from Brescia with Walter Pasini in a Skoda Fabia at 2”5 from Nucita, while in third place Giacomo Scattolon from Pavia with Giovanni Bernacchini (Skoda Fabia) at 17” behind the winner. At the youth level, an applause to the winner of the Under 25 finalist classification, Riccardo Pederzani from Varese with Lino Battaglia on Skoda Fabia Nico Racing team. The 22-year-old driver from Gavirate preceded Thomas Paperini (Skoda) from Pistoia by 18”4 and Alessio Profeta from Messina behind Pederzani by 25”6.
Classifications aside, several curiosities in the two days of competition. On Friday, for example, the intervention of the Fire Brigade was recorded in Casasco, where one of the cars engaged in the special stages caught fire, burning about 200 square meters of undergrowth, fortunately leaving the two drivers unharmed inside. A rally that will also remain in the memory of Dr. Valerio Rossini, competing with his wife Manola Ciceri in the role of navigator. The couple from Albese con Cassano had allowed themselves a weekend of relaxation in the race with the Peugeot 106 1600 n. 203, class N2, of the Scuderia del Lario. Unfortunately, Dr. Rossini’s motoring program has vanished, in fact even before leaving he was recalled to emergency service at the Como hospital due to the Covid emergency which is also gripping the Como area.
