Final under an authentic deluge for the 20th edition of the Triathlon Sprint Città di Lecco, staged on the first Sunday of July.
450 athletes at the start, divided into four different heats, ready to challenge the difficulties of the race and, for the last few matches, even the rain. The first two men’s and women’s heats were able to compete in dry conditions, while in the decisive one, with all the big men, bad weather made its appearance making it especially difficult for the cycling part of the race.
The competition proposed a first swimming leg of 750 meters in the waters of the Lario, starting from the steps in front of the monument to the Lecco Fallen and leaving the water next to the floating platform. The second cycling stage consisted of 20 km on a circuit of 5 to be repeated four times, all along the lakefront and in the historic city center. Finally, the 5 km running fraction, designed on a ring to be repeated twice, completely flat and with passage over the Kennedy bridge to reach the finish line located in the gardens on the Lecco lakeside.
The winner in the heavy rain was Samuele Angelini, an athlete of the Police, who stopped the clock at 52’57 “. Valerio Patanè of Cus Propatria Milano secured 2nd place by crossing the finish line in 53’29 “, while in third position is Michele Bonacina, athlete from Dolzago class ’96 of the Valdigne Triathlon, in 53’42”.
The women’s race went to the young Angelica Prestia of the Raschiani Triathlon team, born in 2002 and winner in 58’53 “. Two of her teammates on the podium with her, namely Paola Sacchi, second in 59’35” and Chiara Magni, third in 1h02’35 “.
The event was once again organized by the Spartacus TriLecco company of president Renzo Straniero. «We thank the new administration of the Municipality of Lecco with whom we collaborated for the first time – explains Straniero -. Being able to close the roads for a race is never easy and for this we thank them, together with all the people who gave us a hand despite the difficult weather conditions in the final part». 2021 edition coincided with the 20th anniversary: “This race is dedicated to the memory of our athlete Matteo Rigamonti, who died at the age of 25. Just to honor him, we started our organizational activity 20 years ago which then led us to grow and make ourselves known throughout Italy» explains the president of Spartacus TriLecco.”
